You guys,
Over the weekend I participated in David Perell and Tiago Forte’s Annual Review workshop.
It was a way to kickstart my year with inspiration, motivation, and momentum.
I gave myself the time and space to reflect on 2020 and examine things I’ve been resisting. And then I was able to look forward and make goals based on what brings me joy rather than what I think I should be doing.
But after the final session on Sunday evening I didn’t sit down to finalize my goals. Instead, I scrambled to write down everything I could remember from a visualization exercise.
In a bonus workshop, guest speaker Chloe Good instructed us to close our eyes as she guided us through a visualization with our “future wise self.”
I had zero expectations.
By the end of it, tears were falling down my face and it felt like I was waking up from a lucid dream.
I had a lot of emotions. And a lot of insights. Some wonderful and some scary. I look forward to sharing them with you soon.
Essay of the Week
Because I struggled with my relationship with food for so long I worry that my son will obsess the way I did, which will lead to anxiety and unhappiness.
Sam and I agree we want George to have a healthy relationship with food but we don’t always agree on the path forward.
When I plead my case, I have a hard time articulating what I’ve learned.
So to clarify my thoughts, I wrote about my biggest takeaways from the book, Intuitive Eating. Interspersed throughout the essay is a look at my own personal journey and an eventual compromise with Sam.
Give-Away Update!
Back in October I announced a give-away to the reader who submitted the best Dear Charlie question.
And the winner was Brandon Walker!
Last year, Brandon left his role as VP of Sales at a fast-growing tech company to become an entrepreneur and start Beanie and Blazer. His course, Mindset Accelerator, helps people align their core values with habits to achieve personal and professional fulfillment.
His question: How have your self-described life challenges (family dynamics, substance abuse, eating disorder) impacted you as a mom, wife, writer, and coach?
Brandon recently posted the photo below and it was so good I had to share.

Until next week,
Charlie
