You guys,
Write of Passage kicked off last week and I swear I’ve had a runner’s high for six days!!
The adrenaline peaked while hosting my first mentor session Sunday.
While the session went great, thanks to insightful and vulnerable comments from the students, the main thing I can improve on is answering questions on the spot. Everyone asked super thoughtful and difficult questions. Sometimes I didn’t have an answer or couldn’t seem to articulate what I was thinking.
Which is why I write!
While in a breakout room during another session we talked about our “Why.” Why do we write? And while the four of us had varying reasons, we all agreed that we write to clarify our thoughts.
The way I write is not the way I speak. When I speak I stumble and bumble and question and doubt. Writing allows me to work through all the things swirling around in my brain and make sense of them.
If I keep writing, I will obviously become a better writer. But I’ll also become a better speaker. And then, a better thinker.
Essay of the Week
The first assignment of Write of Passage was to write a response to your most frequently asked question.
I asked Sam for help and he asked the same thing he asks me every single day: “What are we doing for dinner?”
I groaned. What ARE we doing for dinner??
Because I had such a visceral response to it, I knew it was worth digging deeper to find out why cooking has become less enjoyable in the past year.
I Got My Vaccine!
I wasn’t expecting it. I’m not a teacher but I do work part-time at a local high school. There was no guarantee when coaches would be eligible. Then Tuesday I got an email that my appointment was the following day at noon.
It’s been almost a year of feeling like a hermit. While I’m looking forward to hugs, I’m mostly looking forward to not feeling so stressed out around other humans.
I can’t wait to meet you guys in person. For real. Let’s plan something. :)

Until next week,
Charlie
Great newsletter. I love the insight on writing to clarify thoughts. I often need time to sort out my ideas and what I want to say. I can often organize my thoughts better in writing too. P.S. WOP is off to an amazing start! You all are rocking it!!
Be the best you can.👏
