…the human experience yes…but also very much the social experience of existence on the internet…though screens or no screens…it’s funny the picture you paint with the words v. the intense plethora of realities bouncing around that party…the cynic in me is chuckling at a whole back porch filled with neighborly seething…i had a tree remover and his teenage girlfriend (bumper sticker “daddy’s little princess”) move in and out next door in the course of a doomed 2.5 month real relationship…every time i saw either of them i couldn’t help the knee jerk loathing despite intentional attempts “to be a better person” in my brain…makes me want to make a bumper sticker “we weren’t made for each other”…

Lol CansaFis, yes, the internal battle of judgment vs. I need to be a better person! In the same sentence I will judge someone and then have empathy for them and then criticize myself.

I’ve definitely had the same realization of “did I get better or did I become a hermit” which isn’t always a bad thing imo it’s just nothing challenges you like interacting with other people

Definitely not always a bad thing! Maybe we need to be hermits first.

I don’t know how to grow our of the state of needing to impress people because it’s a love that we don’t seem to be able to give ourselves. I wish I did.

What I also know is the other half of who you are: thoughtful, supportive, disciplined, loving, and funny. And I chose to see the best in you first.

Thank you, Camilo! I choose to see the best in me, too, sometimes.

Yes, definitely the human condition! I also seem to have an inordinate number of close pals who are therapists. It sure comes in handy, doesn't it?

Three months in Greece sounds excellent. Will you be hopping around much, or in one place?

Great read, as always.

Haha having a therapist as a best friend is the best. I've tried therapists that don't work out and I'm like, yea, I can just talk to Kylie.

We are staying in Syros! We'll spend a little time in Athens. I'm sure we'll take a ferry to another island or two but I'm mostly looking forward to settling in Syros.

That sounds amazing. We went for two weeks last summer, and our whole family loved Greece so much—the people, the food... it was an amazing trip. Settling mostly in one spot is often the better call, I think! So cool you're doing that.

The people, the food, yes! I keep hearing this. ...You'll have to send me your recs, Rob!

I found this very interesting. Here you are having an honest to God, face to face, neighbor to neighbor, complete with kids, social interaction, and the basis for “judginess” (not sure if that’s a word, but it should be) is screen use. Wow!
