Charlie- this was so beautiful told. I keep our tree up forever because well as you can imagine, I keep just doing other things... is middle of January acceptable lol.
Charlie - you turned you getting the blues into making me smile. Thank you 😁. This was a perfect reflection: “I stepped closer to the tree, wondering how it could have such a hold over me.”
I also really love Christmas (the lights, the wrapping, the decorations, all of it). This year I took down everything except our twinkling snowflake lights. I reasoned that there’s snow outside so the lights can stay through winter
I don’t get sad. I look at it as more of a clean slate/fresh start to the new year, but I totally understand where you’re coming from. My decorations are mostly snowmen so that I have the option to leave them up through winter. Sometimes I do that, but lately I’ve been taking them all down shortly after Christmas
The idea of a clean slate and a clean house definitely helped me through the sadness this year, much quicker than it has in the past. Hopefully I can keep moving in that direction!
I have a huge adorable snowman on my front door, that replaces the Christmas wreath, and three little guys by my stairs. They make me happy in a different way. :)

Anyways- what a beautiful story.
I can definitely imagine a Christmas tree still up in your house in February haha.

Aw thank you, James. Those dang Christmas blues.

Oh I know you do, Brooke. I read your post about wrapping anything framed on your wall in wrapping paper! Do you also get really sad afterwards??
Totally with you on the snowflake lights. I think I need a whole set of post-Christmas snow-themed decorations to get me through January.

The image of you and George both crying over Christmas being over and then experiencing those feelings pass... What a powerful moment.
Aww thank you, Becky.
Why don’t you keep decorations up until January 7th?
Decorations become immediately depressing as soon as Christmas is over. The longer they stay up, the sadder they make me!
