Two thoughts on Christmas tree logistics: my wife and I used to have a small fake tree, leave it up until April, and then put it in a closet with all the decorations still on. Now we buy small real trees that are potted (instead of cutting a small Charlie Brown tree, you dig up the roots and re-plant it). After Christmas you can un-decorate it, plant it in your yard, and they'll grow between 4-40 feet tall and outlive you. Christmas lives forever!
I've decided that I decide when the Christmas music stops. I still dip into the holiday playlists well into January. It lessens the slope of the offramp just a bit.
What a great explanatory note about Christmas! It feels like it shouldn’t go,though, we still hope for the new year which is already here.😃 Great get together is super thrilling over here.
Wishing best of the new year to friends and family. Also,a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you,my impressive writer.
One year my mom and I left the Christmas tree up til May 😂 (it was fake). We were too lazy to tediously take down and carefully pack every ornament, garland, and string of lights. We turned it on every night, though. I think one day we just got sick of it and took it down. You could try that approach next year?
I also used to get soooo so sad when Christmas was over. So this piece really spoke to me. In college, I started leaving an all white cord/bulb string light somewhere in my place all year long. I also decorate that room to be as cozy as possible, like grandmas house but make it chic. It feels like Christmas without it being Christmas ♥️💚
I was actually thinking of this... I already leave up a string of white lights in the bathroom, but I need more! Lighting is everything. My goal next year: Make it feel like Christmas without being Christmas.
Yes! String lights everywhere!!! The Philips hue lights are also fantastic. They have preset color combinations on the app if you put multiple bulbs in one room. There might be a Christmas mode.
This resonates hard Charlie. My mom and I always feel so let down after Christmas ends, regardless of how nice it was. Everytime I put away the decorations I just hope I live to take them out of the boxes again (morbid I know)
Oh, I feel this. Our house has been pretty glum post-Xmas. Our daughter fell in love with the Ella/Louis Christmas album this year, so that's been on repeat, along with our favorite, the Charlie Brown Christmas album. I miss the music the most. Happy new year to you guys! 🙏
I love the Vince Guaraldi Trio, as well! I'll have to look into the Ella/Lous album for next year. My favorite song this year was Santa Visits Everyone by Sia.

This is magical!

Yea my way is quite abrupt. All Christmas and then No Christmas. Good for you for taking a stand!
Beautiful essay. But only 4 days?!!! It reminded that in Venezuela, Christmas decorations aren’t taken off until February 2nd!!!
It was a pretty quick turnaround, but I did have all my decorations up in November.
Why do they wait until February 2?

Happy New Year to you too, Olufunmi!

Ah I was hoping you'd give me a recommendation! Yessssss.

Tommy, lol, that IS morbid. I had a feeling we shared similar feelings about the holiday, based on your last post.
I did not feel normal until January 2 and I can't tell you what changed. I think it was, unfortunately, just time.
I've created a note in my phone called "Operation Post-Christmas Blues" and I've already got a long list of ways to improve my experience next year.
A perfect ode to the holiday mood roller coaster.
Thanks, Rick. Happy to be off the roller coaster and on solid ground again.
