I'll never not be captivated by the magic of capturing details like this. ". . . the sound of ceramic touching counter top" - something in the whole brain and body light up when a simple experience like this is evoked in a few words.
something about the way you worded and captured it evoked not just the sound, but that whole mood of being in bed and a certain kind of comfort hearing someone else in the house puttering around domestically
There’s research that has shown that getting up in the morning so that you can first do something you WANT, versus NEED, does wonders for your mental and emotional health. Meaning, getting up and having a moment of “me” time before the chaos of the day, instead of getting up at the same time the kids are getting up, really helps with…everything ☺️.
And, the bonus is it allows you to be fully awake and present for those precious morning moments/snuggles/all the things 😍
Def part of the early morning writing krewe. Before kids are up, before work, before most things. It is the only time of day I’ve been able to be consistently productive. Genuinely one of the best healthy habits I’ve established.
Sounds like my life with our threenager. My daughter's in the "put my blanket on me" 5 times phase, too. She used to be an easy out at 7:30pm. Lucky if we can get here into a bed by 9pm now.
And, we did our clean-the-house-before-the-cleaners-come scramble last week. Only monthly, though.
I'm like, dude, you need to learn how to put this blanket on yourself lol.
And same with the time! I used to have down time between the kids bedtime and my bedtime. Now I'm like, you need to go to bed because I need to go to bed.

I love this detailed account. I also have been so grateful for sharing your early morning rise. Last week, I got up early every morning- it was magic, I felt invincible. I was in the quiet kitchen with my notebook, coffee, a CANDLE(!!) and Clayton came down, his first words, "woa. this is nice."
OMG! A candle, too! I have thought about lighting one.. now I must. Now I just need to figure out how to get in bed at 8:00pm lol.
BTW I wrote this piece because you asked about my weekly writing schedule and I fumbled through an answer and couldn't figure it out. So this was my real answer. :)

Ahhh thank you, Rick! It's a great sound, isn't it?

My wife also does the “clean before the cleaning lady comes” 😂😂

the blanket. the freaking blanket. it's on, it's off, it's "NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH ME" -- what the heck!
With you on the house scramble too!
