I desperately want to make a fake account for KBally16@aol and leave a comment, but I won't.
Instead, I'll say thanks for writing this -- it's both heartfelt and practical for those of us with lingering feelings about people in our past, and a desire to write about them....
Charlie: I keep thinking about your deep dive last week and then this essay. I knew I had plateau'd a bit in my writing. You've shown me the next peak! It looks vertical, hard to navigate, and I'm tired as hell, but you've given me a specific thing in my writing to get better at. What a gift!
Reading this published essay vs your draft is an experience. I really love what you've done here. It's a really good lesson to keep in mind. A Bleecker-Bally by-law, if you will.
I'm halfway through reading What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, a memoir by Haruki Murakami, in case this helps.
Bleecker-Bally by-law! Alliteration! Haha. Thank you Becky and thanks so much for your feedback. It was so helpful in getting me to the right place for my second draft.
Ugh my husband loved that book and I completely forgot about it. I'm adding it to the list. Thanks!!

Hahaha KBally16@aol would have totally freaked me out.
Thank you, Alec! I'm glad it was helpful.

Camilo, I have not noticed this plateau you speak of, but I'm glad this was helpful. Please let me know if you want help on this as you try it out. :)
Loved the ending of today's story; way to poignantly drop the mic.
I need to take this reminder to heart. Focus on actions and dialogue, less fuzzy feelings.
Thanks, Scott! Curious to hear how it goes for you when you try it. It's been liberating and fun for me.
A really important distinction for those of us writing with an element of memoir. Thanks Charlie.
Thank you, Karena!
Amazing. You live, and write, what you talk about. So insightful.
I also needed to go back to the top of the essay once I got to the end. Muy biennnn!
Thanks, Anthony!
Merry Christmas... too?

Charlie, as Rick expressed, a beautiful finish and wonderfully fun and insightful story.
Thanks so much, James!
So well done, all the way around with this story and it's essential message. Loved the finish.
Ah, thank you, Rick!
Really great advice!
Thanks, Hannah!!
