I laughed aloud at these opening paragraphs, so identical to my reader/editor/busy/blunt husband. How oh how can one do dishes, load Tupperware, and wipe counters at times like these????

Excited to hear your thoughts on dialogue too!

Lol right?! I knew there would be people out there who related to this experience. Husbands... gotta love 'em.

Charlie, so good! I can totally feel the 'have you read it yet', 'like why haven't you stopped everything, cancelled your meetings, driven off the road to read my DAMN ESSAY!!!'

So good <3 Can't wait to listen to the Podcast!

Even after I sent the draft of this one to him, I was still doing it! The irony!

Charlie, what a fabulous podcast. I learned SO much and wish I had listened long ago - the dialog in my published pieces would have been far better. You’ve given me so many excellent techniques to incorporate. I loved that you used some of your past writing (before/after) as examples since I had read and remembered the passages. I loved what you said about High Fidelity. I’m not sure if you realized it, but the way you described how the protagonist talking to the camera/audience is exactly what you were doing with us listeners of the podcast.

I really learned something when you related and described that “there are three people” in a dialog.

Congrats on the progress of your book! That’s tremendous that you’ve come so far so quickly. It must feel good! I think it’s really telling about who you are and the service you are to the world that you’re writing a book, and still writing your blog and still recording your podcast for others like me to learn from. Most people would just put their heads down on the book, and let go of the contribution to others. 🙏

Keep on keeping on. I speak for many when I say I’m grateful for you being you.

James, you always know how to brighten my day. Thank you for taking the time to tell me all this! I'm so glad the tips on dialogue were helpful.

As for the book progress, thank you! It feels amazing to almost be finished the first draft and excited to tackle Draft 2. I appreciate your comments about the service of sharing my learnings but it's selfishly motivated... the podcast helps crystallize those learnings in a way that just doesn't happen from simply taking notes. I'm learning SO much, and all of it is making my book writing better.

Thank you for reading and listening and being so supportive. I love that I could break the 4th wall in the podcast the same way Zoe did in High Fidelity. Haha. That is exactly the kind of intimacy I want with my readers and listeners!

“Uh, yea, I have,” - - Incredible how evocative this exact phrasing and these syllables are to your character in that moment.

Haha yea Rick, you know me so I'm sure you could picture it, too!
