So perfect, even without the kiss:

“He was genuine, earnest, and so present as he locked eyes on mine…”

When you’re my age Charlie, you kiss more often with our eyes, and with your presence. It’s depressing at first, and then it’s heartwarming, and can make you tingle almost as much as a great kiss.

Aww I love this. "It's depressing at first," Lol.

Also, if I were to edit this, I would totally take out the kiss at the end! You're right, it doesn't need it! OBVIOUSLY we were going to kiss.

Charlie. I just read this out loud to Clayton in the van on the way to Ohio. We were grinning through the entire Mexico scene! The way you describe Sam, we loved it! 👏👏

I've told this story so many times, and written an abbreviated version, but it's amazing how much comes back to you when you sit down and write the story of how you met your person. (hint hint essay idea :)

Such a moving and funny piece. The sing-songy “Someone was asking about you last nighttttt" is so good. I also loved: "He talked about the moon for two hours the other night." That one lands with a particular pang of recognition. Lovely stuff, as always.
