"In moments when I’m triggered and revert back to a past self who rivals my sister’s defensiveness and indignation, I’m unable to see what’s so clearly in front of me. Jessica is unhappy."

This is such a great observation. When someone is unhappy with themselves they're often impossible to reason with. And it's draining trying to reason with them.

I was going to comment on whether Charlie had the opportunity to understand their general discontent, but I agree with your observation about people being hard to reason with when they are in this state. They have to be open to engaging.

So draining!! I not only felt this but was able to realize I was feeling it, which made me question how much I want to be investing in this relationship.

Really enjoyed this week’s Bleecker Bombs! I had listened to the Ferriss / Mochary episode and now listened to it again with Jules on a long car trip. So many gems in there and love the way you and Sam collated some of the key moments!

I love this essay because I feel like I see myself in everyone in this at one point or another in my life. Also because I have a sister and there is really no one I can be pettier with (though I do love her and appreciate her tolerating my bad moods).

We are our brattiest with the people we love most. Although it sounds like you and your sister ALSO have a very loving relationship, while my sister and I do not. Not that we don't love each other, but we're not very loving.
